hrm an interesting april fools day or so it

Hrm... an interesting april fools day, or so it seems. It was the first day of classes today, and in classic form, I wasn't on campus until 10P or so. I spent most of the day dealing with random stuff, and pulling a book list of books that I want to pick up. As is usual, two of them were not in the shelves, so I stuck a search out on them... who knows if they'll be found at all.

Chatted with paul at starbucks for quite a while about his spring break, and some of his plans for the future. Then wandered back home to read some more before sleeping.

Woke up rediculously early to go to class this morning. CS 238 and gen 240B were both primarily informational meetings, and as such, not much happened in them. Talked briefly with aaron in the bear groudns area, then wandered back home and took a nap.

attended cs 238 got a mathmatician s introduction

Attended CS 238, got a mathmatician's introduction to molecular biology and genetics (not like I needed it), then ate lunch, then went to GNT 240B where linkage maps and the methods of obtaining them were discussed in rather loose fashion.

I also prepared two NMR samples to hopefully put the finishing touches on the BBRC paper before coming home, and working on some of the [http://www.grandmarc.com|Grand Marc] issues. Then I wandered out to starbucks, and hit up alberto's too.

Now more LotR and sleep becons me.

went to the monthly cmdb lunch right after i woke

Went to the monthly CMDB lunch right after I woke up, heard about Dr. Hyman's small project on mitochondrial dna recombination, and how a bit of serindipity and knowledge allowed him to bring down a bit of dogma.

Then I spent some time freeze thawing the NMR sample before running it and wandering back home. After that, I sat and read some more work on natural language parsing, before going over to Angela's to go to club blue and free thinking.

I haven't been to club blue before, and it was pretty decent, a nice location so long as either the doors are open or the air conditioning is on high (which it seemed not to be... quite annoying). Pretty decent set by Juan Nunez, a good set by Little Chris, followed by Metro Area, which was rather awesome. Unfortunatly, I'm not as fond of Doc Martin's style (tends to get a bit to hard for me) so I wandered across the street to free thinking for a bit before 2 and then heading back home. Interestingly, at free thinking, I was once again reminded of how rude guys can be... angela was bothered by a complete idiot who, for whatever reason, thought she would be interested in someone who didn't have the comon courtesy to introduce themselves without trying to touch. Luckily, that happens rarely... (and girls don't do that to me, ever...)

sometimes i see people who look like the might be

Sometimes I see people who look like the might be like me. Lost in a world that is not of their creating, wandering through the land, finding personal meaning in the things and the people that they come across, seeking what cannot be sought.

Perhaps I am just transfering my own desires upon other people who would not be so inclined, or reading far too much upon a chance meeting, a glance, a way of walking. I rarely if ever actually talk to these people, being too locked into my own reality, and not wishing to impinge on their privacy. But still I watch, and wait, and hope.

went to class this morning and learned about the

Went to class this morning and learned about the edit algorithm for sequence alignment, and rehashed some of the dynamic programming paradigm (which I am relatively familiar with, but haven't used before). After cleass I sat about in the commons area eating lunch and playing on the 802.11 network.

After lunch I went out to LA to see the preliminary fashion show of angela's (and her clasemates) work, and some of it was really impressive. I have some pictures up (not very many, and they're not verry good) at [http://gallery.donarmstrong.com/angela_fashionshow/].

After the show we went to the formosa hotel which is a pretty cool little place that from the outside doesn't look like much, but inside is quite amazing. Obviously someone with a clue did the interior decorating and design, as it has a cool mediteranian feel, and lots of neat little areas spread through out the lobby.

After that we went to see a play that angela's boyfriend mike was acting in. A series of one act vignettes based on a set of two words drawn from a hat and written in 12 hours performed, and then later revisited and adjusted, some of them were quite fabulous. It's called [http://www.sacredfools.org/DarkNights/02/SlowAndTight/|Slow & Tight], and I highly recommend that people go check it out. It's playing at [http://www.sacredfools.org/SacredFools] for most of this month.

i ended up arriving at around midnight when ltj

I ended up arriving at around midnight, when LTJ was supposedly going on. Little Chris was doing battle with the system, and trying to keep people interested and on the dancefloor while waiting for LTJ (I don't feel right commenting on Little Chris's set, as I arrived after he was supposed to have stopped playing...). I hadn't been to the factory before, but the venue seemed relatively well setup with a copious dancefloor (save for the kind of anoying drink rail towards the wall).

Unfortunatly, the sound system was absolutely atrocious. One set of subs was stuck directly underneath the stage, and even the flying tables couldn't eliminate the bass feedback. Whoever was (or wasn't) running the sound also seemed to have left one of the stage mics on for part of the night that was ocasionally giving trebble feedback. [Note to anyone who uses that venue. Bring your own system, and your own professional soundpeople... or your own professional soundpeople at the very least.]

Finally, after getting worried that LTJ wasn't going to show up at all, he arrived at 1A... instantly the dancefloor was packed. LTJ dropped some awsome tracks that had me dancing for most of the rest of the evening, although in a couple of places MC Conrad (someone correct me if that wasn't MC Conrad... I don't know him that well) overuse of a delay->echo in his mcing was really anoying and detracted from what both he and LTJ were doing...

All in all, besides the sound system (which became better throughout the night), and the fact that LTJ only was able to play for 2 hours instead of the 3 that I thought he would, I had a relatively good time. (And a damn good time for a thursday night.)

Well, today [http://paulzugnoni.com|paul] managed to get a his first [http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/05/01/0523251&mode=thread&tid=141|article] posted to [http://slashdot.org/|slashdot].

I got experiments ready to go, slept through my first class, attended the second, and tried to deal with some other issues that were beginning to affect my day.
